Experience Uganda beyond the classic safari route on a 21-day journey combining wildlife, primates, dramatic landscapes and meaningful cultural encounters. Travel from Kampala into the eastern highlands, meet communities in Karamoja, explore the remote wilderness of Kidepo Valley, and continue through Murchison Falls, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth and the gorilla regions of southwestern Uganda.

Full Itinerary
Entebbe to Kampala | Arrival & Welcome to Uganda
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport and meet your safari guide before transferring to Kampala. Check in at Washarika Lodge or a similar property and take time to rest after your journey. This is a relaxed introduction to Uganda before the adventure begins.
Kampala | City & Cultural Heritage
Explore Kampala through some of its most important cultural and historic sites. Visit the Uganda Museum, Kasubi Tombs, Namirembe Cathedral and the Bahá'í Temple. The day offers an introduction to Uganda’s history, traditions and urban life before continuing into the country’s more remote regions.
Kampala to Mount Elgon | Journey East
Travel east towards Mount Elgon National Park, with the journey taking around three and a half hours. Arrive at Rafiki Lodge or a similar property and enjoy the surrounding scenery. The afternoon is free to relax and prepare for the following day’s exploration.
Mount Elgon | Sipi Falls & Hiking
Explore the Mount Elgon region on foot, following scenic trails through the lush landscape. Visit Sipi Falls, a series of waterfalls set against the foothills of Mount Elgon, and take in the surrounding views before returning to the lodge.
Mount Elgon to Moroto | Into Karamoja
Continue north towards Moroto on a scenic drive through changing landscapes. After settling into Karatunga Lodge or a similar property, explore Moroto and its surroundings, with an introduction to the communities and way of life of the Karamojong people.
Moroto | Karamojong Cultural Walk
Spend the day with a local guide learning about Karamojong traditions and daily life. Discover the importance of cattle herding, traditional customs and community practices. Depending on arrangements, enjoy a local meal or traditional music and dance before returning to the lodge.
Moroto to Kidepo Valley National Park | First Safari
Travel to Kidepo Valley National Park and settle into your lodge at Savana Lodge or a similar property. Later, head out for an afternoon game drive, exploring the park’s distinctive landscapes and looking for wildlife including lions, cheetahs and leopards.
Kidepo Valley National Park | Wildlife & Cultural Experience
Explore the Narus Valley on a morning game drive, one of the park’s key wildlife areas. Later, take part in an optional cultural experience with nearby communities or enjoy a quieter afternoon around the lodge before another evening in Kidepo.
Kidepo to Gulu | Luo Cultural Experience
Leave Kidepo and continue towards Gulu, with the journey taking approximately six hours. On arrival, explore Gulu and connect with the local Luo community. Learn about traditional customs and farming practices before settling into Gulu Churchill Hotel or a similar property.
Gulu to Murchison Falls | Savannah Wildlife
Continue to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s iconic northern safari destination. After the approximately four-hour journey, head out for a game drive across the park’s savannah, looking for elephants, lions, giraffes and antelopes before settling into Pakuba Lodge or a similar property.
Murchison Falls | Nile Cruise & Chimpanzee Trekking
Experience Murchison Falls from the Nile on a boat cruise, following the river towards the dramatic falls. Later, explore Bugoma Forest on a chimpanzee trek, combining two very different sides of Uganda’s wilderness in one day.
Murchison Falls to Kibale National Park | Into the Forest
Travel south towards Kibale National Park on a journey of approximately six hours. Arrive and check into your accommodation before taking time to relax in the forest surroundings and prepare for the following day’s primate experiences.
Kibale National Park | Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi
Head into Kibale’s lush forest for chimpanzee trekking, then explore Bigodi Swamp on a guided nature walk. Look for birdlife and other primates while experiencing the forest and wetland environment at a slower pace.
Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park | Evening Game Drive
Travel approximately two hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park. After arriving and settling into Bush Lodge or a similar property, head out for an evening game drive in search of lions, elephants and antelopes.
Queen Elizabeth National Park | Game Drive & Kazinga Channel
Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park on a morning game drive before taking a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. Watch for hippos, crocodiles and birdlife along the water before enjoying some time at the lodge or an optional guided nature walk.
Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi | Gorilla Country
Continue towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, with the journey taking approximately four hours. Arrive in the forest region and prepare for the next day’s gorilla experience. Accommodation is at 4 Gorillas Lodge or a similar property.
Bwindi to Mgahinga | Gorilla Trekking & Volcanoes
Experience gorilla trekking in the Bwindi region before continuing towards Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. For those interested in extending the mountain experience, an optional Mount Sabyinyo hike offers panoramic views across the surrounding volcanic landscape.
Mgahinga to Kabale | Boogaali Factory & Local Life
Travel to Kabale and settle into Arcadia Lodge or a similar property. Visit the Boogaali Factory to see the bamboo bike workshop and learn about its production process, then explore Kabale town, including its local markets and everyday life.
Kabale | Lake Bunyonyi & Cultural Experiences
Enjoy a more relaxed day around Kabale. Visit Lake Bunyonyi and take in its tranquil surroundings, then connect with local communities through a cultural walk. The day provides time to slow down after the longer safari sections of the journey.
Kabale to Lake Mburo National Park | Wildlife & Lake Cruise
Travel approximately two and a half hours to Lake Mburo National Park. Enjoy a game drive looking for zebras, impalas, elands and other wildlife, followed by a boat cruise on Lake Mburo where hippos, crocodiles and birdlife can be seen. Stay at Rwakobo Rock or a similar property.
Lake Mburo to Entebbe | Farewell to Uganda
After breakfast, begin the approximately four-hour journey to Entebbe International Airport. Your Uganda journey comes to an end with your departure flight.
