Terms & Policies

These policies explain how we work with you when you book a safari with Tuntu Safaris. Please read them carefully before confirming your booking. If you have any questions, we are happy to clarify anything.

01. Booking & Payment Terms

All safaris with Tuntu Safaris are subject to availability and confirmation.

To secure your booking, we require a deposit. The standard deposit is 30% of the total safari cost. In some cases (especially when gorilla or chimpanzee permits need to be purchased immediately), a higher deposit or full payment for permits may be required at the time of booking.

The remaining balance is due 60 days before the start of your safari. For bookings made within 60 days of departure, full payment is required at the time of confirmation.
We accept bank transfers and major credit cards. All prices are quoted in US Dollars (USD) unless otherwise stated. Once we receive your deposit and issue a written confirmation, your booking is secured.

Please note that gorilla and chimpanzee permits are purchased on your behalf from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. These permits are non-refundable and non-transferable once issued.

02. Cancellation & Refund Policy

We understand that plans can change. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • More than 90 days before departure: Deposit is refundable minus a USD 150 administration fee per person, and minus the cost of any non-refundable permits already purchased.
  • 89 – 60 days before departure: 30% of the total safari cost is retained.
  • 59 – 30 days before departure: 50% of the total safari cost is retained.
  • 29 – 15 days before departure: 75% of the total safari cost is retained.
  • 14 days or less before departure (or no-show): 100% of the total safari cost is retained.

Any gorilla or chimpanzee permits that have already been purchased are non-refundable in all cases.

If we have to cancel your safari due to circumstances beyond our control (for example, extreme weather, park closures, or political instability), we will offer you the choice of a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule your trip.

03. Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is compulsory for all travellers booking with Tuntu Safaris.
Your insurance must cover:

  • Medical expenses and emergency evacuation
  • Trip cancellation and curtailment
  • Personal liability
  • Loss of personal belongings

We strongly recommend that your policy also covers adventure activities, including gorilla and chimpanzee trekking. Please ensure your insurance is valid for the full duration of your trip and for the destinations you will visit. We may ask to see proof of insurance before your safari begins.

04. Our Responsibilities & Limitations of Liability

Tuntu Safaris acts as an agent between you and the various service providers (lodges, parks, transport companies, etc.). We take great care in selecting reliable partners and planning your itinerary.
However, we cannot be held responsible for:

  • Injury, loss, or damage arising from activities outside our direct control
  • Delays or changes caused by weather, road conditions, park authorities, or other third parties
  • Loss of personal belongings
  • Any illness or medical condition

Participation in all safari activities is at your own risk. We will always prioritise your safety and will adjust plans if we believe conditions are unsuitable.

By booking with us, you acknowledge that you understand the inherent risks of travel in remote areas and wildlife environments.
